Shirley Bailey
Programme Support Officer
Shirley started her career in hotel management, sales and marketing, selling conference and exhibition space. She spent most of the 1990s working at the University of Lancashire, including a (pre-digital) year in the Department of Journalism when Peter Cole, founder-editor of the Sunday Correspondent pre-launch of The Independent, was HoD. She kicked off the 2000s with a Master’s in Creative Writing and has spent the last 20 years or so working in the Arts in admin, operations, bid-writing, scriptwriting, HR, governance, income generation, and business development.
She rejoined the university in May ’25 to work with François and the JILeaders Team in the Media Innovation Studio. Shirley is the Programme Support Officer for the JILeaders Programme, so when you’ve checked the Course Calendar and your Module Information Packs and still have a query, she’s the person to contact.
