Research and Commercial Bid Writer

John is the research and commercial bid writer for UCLan’s Faculty of Culture and the Creative Industries, based in the Media Innovation Studio. John sits on the Faculty Research Strategy Board and on the Advisory Board for Creative Practice Research Academy and the Arts & Humanities Research Academy. Formerly Head of the Hong Kong Design Institue and Head of Fashion, Textiles and 3D Design at Birmingham City university, his experience helps synergise cross-Faculty research interests through a more structured and strategic approach around elevating research aspirations and tendering activities. John also currently supervises three PhD students across UCLan.

John’s research interests lie around the internationalisation of higher education, working with overseas partners and Ministries of Higher Education to promote collaborative partnerships and research co-operation, with a focus on East Asia and Middle East /North Africa. He secured 10M Euros funding for SHARE, the ‘European Union Support to Higher Education in the ASEAN Region’, then managed the 4 year initiative as Team Leader. He also speaks regularly on providing access to higher education for refugees and displaced young people.
