The Media Innovation Studio is delighted to report that it will be delivering and/or supporting two new Masters degrees: MA in Media Innovation and MA in Visual Journalism.
From January 2014 postgraduate students will be able to study Media Innovation, which involves digital practice, theory and business modules and is configured around a ‘blended learning’ approach. This means that students can study from Preston or remotely as much of the course will be accessible virtually.
The team also plan to run Open Labs events, that will see students from a wide range of disciplines come together in our learning studio to rapid prototype digital products and concepts in intensive multi-day sessions.
Ultimately, the course hopes to examine “the cause and effect of digital evolution both offline and online. It encompasses practical skills for digital content creation; looks at new ways of collaboration and co-production and examines the web of capital streams through potential revenue opportunities.
“It also presents the chance to study as part of multi-disciplinary teams, and to develop links with a number of digital industries. The MA ultimately investigates the power technological innovation to connect people in myriads of new ways to co-create and build a sustainable future for all.”
Colleagues in Photography have also recently launched an MA in Visual Journalism, and members of the Media Innovation Studio team will be supporting the course and students throughout the academic year. The new Masters will “explore a spectrum of approaches from news journalism to ethnographic practices to convey stories about the real world. Embedded in live projects, with international opportunities and professional practitioners the programme aims to equip students with the essential practical, creative and vocational skills for the media landscape of the twenty first century.”
