Media Innovation Studio Dispatch 5th May
Andrew Heaton and Mark Lochrie have been experimenting with real world data visualisation (and the 3d printer) with a visualisation of the amount of coffee we drink in the office. Suffice to say that given the amount of coffee we drink, its not to scale! Making data tangible is something we’re really interested in and it made for a nice project to test the printer in anger.
If you want to see what’s cooking on the printer you can tune in to the live webcam of Mark’s little maker space via youtube. Also if you want to know more about 3d printing (or streaming live to youtube via a raspberry pi) then drop us a line.
The Online News Association conference has been one of the key events in the online journalism world. This year it will be in Washington and John Mills and Newsthings team would like to be their too! They’ve pitched a session on the project for the event in October. Fingers crossed.
It’s not studio news but very exciting, was hearing that Lubaina Himid one of our colleagues from the School of Art, Design and Fashion has been shortlisted for the 2017 Turner Prize. Amazing. Congratulations from us all.
In the space
It was great to have the Raspberry Jam group back in the space on Monday evening, even though it was a bank holiday! You can catch up with their talks via Twitter and Persiscope
On Wednesday the space was used for Research Project Presentations and as an Exhibition space for Film production students. We have a few events coming up in the next few weeks where students will be showcasing their work. It’s always amazing to see the range and depth of creativity.
