The University of Central Lancashire’s School of Journalism, Media and Performance established the Media Innovation Studio in 2012. The Studio was set up as a research centre and learning lab. Our staff are engaged in a broad range of media activities spanning community and industry media research, progressive digital teaching and developing new technology.
Housed in UCLan’s Preston-based Media Factory, the Media Innovation Studio has a number of key aims: create an innovative learning environment for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral candidates, specialise in industry and community focused training and analysis, and generate world-leading research within the ever-evolving digital world.
The academic team comprises a range of skills and interests, including journalism lecturers, researchers, technologists, project specialists and filmmakers. Our mandate is to foster innovative research, develop projects and collaborate with individuals, organisations or institutions (or all of the above!).
Much of our research and teaching is centred on the rapidly changing digital media landscape, and focuses on charting potential media futures and industry trends. We have a passion for working with communities of many shapes, sizes and guises, and seek to analyse, build and experiment with both mainstream digital technologies and disruptive alternatives.
